More than 110,00 students will be homeless this school year, and stretched extremely thin. Homeless famlies simply can't afford many of the basic items their kids need for school. As we have done in past years, St. Francis Xavier Social Justice Ministry will be accepting donations of NEW backpacks and other school supplies through the weekend of August 18/19.
Our Faith Formation Programs for children and teens are based on the belief that God calls us "to act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with our God". Our main goal is to help the children know how much God loves them, to help them develop a strong personal relationship with Jesus and enable them to discover the richness of our Catholic faith.
We are looking for assistance with our programs. Sharing your love of God and your faith with the young people of our parish can be a very rewarding experience.
- Do you know a neighbor or friend who has expressed a desire to learn more about the Catholic faith and perhaps, to become part of our community?
- Has your spouse has been thinking about becoming a Catholic and does not know how to proceed?
- Have you been explaining your faith to someone?
If the answer to any of the above questions is "Yes", then you should know about the RCIA - the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
We welcome into our parish family pray God's fullest blessings upon: Edie Frances Thuy Abrams, Livia Edith Burns and Alejandro Arcadio Martin III.

After this Sunday, our Children's Liturgy of the Word program at the 9:30 Mass on Sundays will take a break until September. We give special thanks to our dedicated committee members who provide this wonderful opportunity for our children. Eva Franczak, Kathleen Gallagher, Regina Hawkey, Maryanne Mazzola, Maria McGrath, Theresa Seabaugh, Ellen Shea, Mary Thaman and Jane Tully. May God bless each of you for your loving service to the children of our parish.
Children who have reached school age and do not attend a Catholic school should be enrolled in our Parish Faith Formation Program. We urge parents to support the promises made at your child's baptism by providing your child with this opportunity to grow in the knowledge and love of God. Registration for fall classes is taking place now. Contact Sister Helene to set up an appointment.
Our best wishes and prayers go out to all of the moms of our parish. We will remember you at our Masses this week and ask God to continue to bless you with wisdom and love. May your special place in the lives of our families and of our children be a source of joy and fulfillment for all of you and may Our Lord strengthen you in your work of building up our Christian family.
We ask God as well to protect and embrace the moms whose lives of dedication and holiness have given their adult children a firm and loving foundation in life.

Due to the severity of this year's flu outbreak, Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn, has mandated that the distribution of the precious blood to the faithful at Mass, be suspended. This suspension will be lifted upon conclusion of this flu season.
