The Giving Tree will be displayed at the front of the church. You are invited to take home a paper ornament so you can purchase a gift for a neighbor in need this Christmas season. This year, Christmas vacation comes early for students, so please return the gifts preferably by December 8th, and the latest December 14th. Please make sure to tape the paper ornament back onto the gift and place under the tree. Last year some students did not receive their gifts as some were not returned by the due date.
Next weekend, December 7th and 8th after all Masses parents from our Religious Education Program for children will be at the doors of the Church with raffle tickets to support our religious education efforts. Tickets are $2 each or a book of 6 for $10. Many great prizes, including:
- 4 Tickets to The Christmas Spectacular at Radio City
- Yankee Tickets
- Brooklyn Nets All Access Tickets
- An Apple Watch
- Dinners at Local Restaurants
...and many more exciting prizes.
On Monday, December 9th at 7:30pm we will gather for our annual evening of Lesson and Carols. This program includes brief Advent and Christmas readings from Scripture, music of the season sung by the choir, and communal singing of traditional Christmas carols. After the program, our outdoor parish Christmas tree and Nativity Creche will be blessed. We hope you will join us.
Having an accurate Parishioner Registration Count is very important for our parish and for the diocese. Registration is one of the many ways that the diocese determines the health and vitality of our parish. In this age of merging parishes we want to ensure that St. Francis Xavier continues it's mission of being a vibrant part of the Park Slope community.
Please HELP US to maintain an accurate, updated account of those who attend Mass at SFX and participate in our parish community by filling out a current registration card.
If you or someone you know is interested in finding out more about the Catholic faith or receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, we'd love to talk with you about the RCIA process. This process provides an opportunity to go on a spiritual journey with other adults seeking to deepen their relationship with God and begin or renew their commitment to God through full membership in the Catholic Church.. For more information, contact Sister Helene .
As you know, St. Francis Xavier School has closed and the building is being leased by the Board of Education. We will still be using the school building for religious education classes on the weekends. However, the Faith Formation Office is now permanently in what was the trophy room. The new Faith Formation Office can be accessed through the garden between the church and the rectory. Enter the garden through the gate, go all the way down the walkway to the brown door and ring the top bell. Sister Helene's office is right there. The phone number is still the same (718)-857-2903.
My dear parishioners,
After much thought, weighing the wise counsel of others, and with many, many prayers, I have decided to retire from full time priestly ministry. I do so with heart felt sadness.
Many issues have factored into my decision, but the one I feel that is the most important is my ability to serve St. Francis Xavier parish effectively.
